This week, Dale Power Solutions was pleased to welcome Alison Hume MP, the Labour Member of Parliament for Scarborough and Whitby, to our Scarborough manufacturing site. The visit offered the opportunity to showcase the capability and heritage of our engineering operations here on the Yorkshire coast.
Alison also used the visit to discuss her ambition to establish Scarborough as North Yorkshire’s energy hub, strengthening the region’s strategic links with Tees Valley, Hull, and the Humber.
Alison began her visit with an introductory presentation delivered by our CEO, Gavin Hepburn, outlining Dale Power Solutions’ long-standing history in Scarborough and our position as one of the area’s key engineering manufacturers. Our backup power systems ensure that national critical infrastructure, from hospitals to transportation networks, is protected from power outages and disturbances.
Following the presentation, Alison was given a tour of our factory, giving her the chance to see first-hand the expertise and precision that underpin our engineering operations.

As one of Scarborough’s major employers, we were proud to highlight the role we play in supporting skilled employment in the region. Many of our employees live locally and have developed long-term careers with us. For example, this year Ian Ellmore, Technical Manager for UPS Technical Support, celebrated 50 years in the business, having started as an apprentice draughtsman in 1975.
A key part of the discussion focused on our commitment to developing the next generation of engineers. Our apprenticeship programme continues to provide practical, high-quality training for young people who want to begin a career in engineering, manufacturing, or technical services.
Our apprentices rotate across departments, gaining hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical engineering, testing, assembly, and field service. Many go on to join the business permanently, forming an important pipeline of talent that supports both our future and Scarborough’s wider skills landscape.
We also shared our ongoing work to embed sustainability across the business. This includes reducing waste, improving energy efficiency across our facilities, and supporting the wider transition to low-carbon power systems through our renewable-aligned technologies, such as solar panels, battery energy storage, and our growing plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) service fleet. We recently won an Energy and Sustainability Award at the AMPS Awards for Excellence 2025, reflecting both our internal progress, and our external impact, helping customers move towards cleaner, more resilient energy strategies.

The visit was a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the strength of Scarborough’s engineering sector, the dedication of our team, and the important role manufacturers like Dale Power Solutions continue to play in supporting the local community, the national economy, and the future of sustainable energy.
We thank Alison Hume MP for taking the time to learn more about our work and the people who make it possible.
