The Acquisition of Calibre Power Electronics
Founded in 2000 by Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) expert Jagdesh Rana, Calibre Power Electronics earned a reputation for technical excellence and reliable service in the UPS market serving Northeast oil and gas sectors.
Bringing 15 years of engineering experience in power systems and industrial control technologies, including technical development and leadership roles at respected Scottish firms, Jagdesh founded Calibre Power Electronics with a vision for high standards and dependable service in critical power infrastructure.
The name ‘Calibre’ was inspired by a client’s remark: “engineers of this calibre are hard to come by.” Jagdesh’s decision to establish the business was rooted in entrepreneurial drive and a family tradition of business ownership, dating back to his father’s curios and spice shop in Durban, South Africa.
With headquarters in Portlethen Aberdeen, Scotland’s energy capital, Calibre has established roots in the region’s rich industrial heritage and continues to deliver vital technical support to offshore oil, gas, and wind power generation operations.
Calibre provides comprehensive lifecycle support for alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) UPS systems in offshore environments, ensuring power reliability where failure is not an option.
Services are designed to meet the unique operational and safety demands of sectors such as oil and gas, marine, defence, and renewable energy, particularly those operating in remote, hazardous or high-risk locations.
Calibre support UPS systems ranging from single-phase rack-mounted units to three-phase modular and standalone industrial UPS solutions, commonly used to support essential systems like fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown, navigation, and communications infrastructure. These systems are engineered to handle harsh offshore environments that present high humidity, corrosive salt air, temperature fluctuations, and space constraints.
UPS commissioning, servicing, repairs, and turnkey project engineering
Preventative and corrective maintenance, tailored to offshore scheduling constraints and client-specific risk assessments.
Battery system support, including cell discharge testing, replacement, and smart upgrade integration (e.g. lithium-ion or advanced VRLA options).
Offshore work requires full compliance with HSE regulations and industry certifications such as ATEX/IECEx. Calibre’s engineers are qualified for offshore deployment (BOSIET, HUET, OGUK) and operate with a strong focus on minimising downtime while maximising system availability.
Calibre overcomes offshore maintenance challenges through remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance tools, and efficient scheduling to reduce asset lifecycle costs and unplanned shutdowns.
As part of this acquisition, every member of Calibre’s expert engineering team has joined the Dale Power Solutions family. Their deep technical knowledge, offshore experience, and commitment to service are central to Calibre’s reputation and will continue under Dale Power Solutions.
We are also pleased to welcome Managing Director Laura Anisha Rana, who joins Dale Power Solutions as Business Development manager. Laura took over leadership of Calibre in 2020, proudly continuing the work of her father, Jagdesh Rana. Her leadership has upheld Calibre’s longstanding commitment to integrity, innovation, and technical excellence.
While Calibre is now part of a national organisation, its identity as a proud Scottish company remains intact. The business continues to operate from its base in Portlethen, maintaining the same independent spirit, regional pride, and strong relationships that have earned the trust of clients across the energy sector.
Together, Calibre and Dale Power Solutions are expanding technical capability, enhancing service reach, and delivering even greater value to customers, ensuring resilient, high-performance power solutions supported by the UK’s leading critical power specialists.
