Introduction

AMP7, the seventh Asset Management Period planned by the UK water industry, runs from 2020 – 2025. Of primary importance to water companies, AMP7 carries financial rewards and penalties for performance (or underperformance) in delivering good customer engagement, affordable bills, resiliency in the water network, and innovation. Addressing the challenges facing the water industry – such as the growing population and the resulting impact on the environment – AMP7 aims to boost efficiency within the water industry too.

Manefesto For Water

As part of AMP7, water companies have pledged to spend more than £50 billion improving water services and customer support in their business plans to Ofwat (The Water Services Regulation Authority). As stated in Water UK’s ‘A Manifesto For Water’, which outlines the collective plans of the water companies, there will be a ‘’36% decrease in the time that supplies are interrupted’’, ‘’Companies are proposing to reduce leakage by 461 million litres every day over the 2020-25 period’’ and they ‘’plan to help 1.4 million customers each year with their water bills by 2025’’ – especially those who are struggling. For customers, this means greater engagement and transparency from their water suppliers, and price points that are more affordable.

To ensure compliance with AMP7, Ofwat introduced 14 common performance commitments (PC’s) which include water quality compliance, water supply interruptions, internal sewer flooding, pollution incidents and risk of sewer flooding in a storm, as well as unplanned outage and treatment works compliance. These PC’s are being used to compare water companies to ensure safe working practices and a high service level. It is therefore imperative that businesses in the water industry have power supply equipment that is WIMES compliant, and meets industry standards such as IP Protection too.

Summary

In order to comply with AMP7 and ensure power provision at all times, Dale has a number of WIMES approved UPS systems, designed and built for utility companies who require reliable, continuous power in the harshest environments.
