Masterclass Success: Avoiding the Energy Crisis and Supporting Business Resiliency
Dale Power Solutions’ recent in-person masterclass, Avoiding the Energy Crisis and Supporting Business Resiliency, held at Hardwick Hall Hotel on 11th November, brought together a diverse group of industry professionals for an engaging and thought-provoking afternoon.
Our keynote speaker, Ed Gillespie, sustainability expert and former Greenpeace Director, gave a dynamic talk on the future of energy, climate action, and how businesses can take meaningful steps toward sustainability. Ed challenged the room to think more critically about the future: the questions it asks of us, the behaviours businesses will need to adopt, and the importance of long-term, sustainable decision making. His perspective set the stage for looking forward and solutions driven discussion.

Next, Hannah Magowan, Lead Engineer for Energy Storage & Renewables, and Dean Callow, Head of Energy Storage & Renewables, delivered an insightful presentation on the realities of the energy crisis, market trends shaping the sector, and practical approaches to building energy resilience through innovative technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). They explored the energy trilemma of security, affordability and sustainability, while highlighting how market volatility, negative pricing, and rising renewable penetration are reshaping the way organisations must plan for the future.
Key themes from the session included:
Renewables now make up around half of the UK’s generation, with offshore wind expected to continue rising, increasing the need for reliable balancing solutions.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) play a central role in supporting grid stability, improving energy security, and helping businesses capture value during volatile pricing events.
Current schemes and incentives including the NCC (Network Charging Compensation), IETF (Industrial Energy Transformation Fund), and SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) are influencing how businesses invest in energy efficiency and resilience.
Electric vehicle adoption is projected to reach around 30% of UK households by 2030, up from approximately 5% today, increasing demand across networks.
The importance of data-driven decision making, from load profiling and forecasting to exploring energy-as-a-service models.
While hydrogen offers long-term potential, batteries remain essential for supporting the grid today and enabling smoother energy transitions.
Throughout the session, our speakers emphasised the need for organisations to think beyond short-term challenges and move towards long-term, asset based energy strategies. Strengthening resilience is not only about adopting the right technology, it’s about understanding the grid, anticipating future conditions and making informed investment decisions grounded in data.
We’d like to extend our thanks to Ed Gillespie for being our fantastic keynote speaker and to Jessica Williams, Managing Director of Just Williams, for hosting the afternoon so brilliantly. We look forward to continuing to support businesses as they navigate an increasingly complex energy landscape and build for a more resilient future.
