From Oil & Gas to Offshore Wind: Calibre Power Electronics One Year After Joining Dale Power Solutions
Blog
In April 2025, Dale Power Solutions acquired its long-term business partner, Calibre Power Electronics, marking an important milestone in both companies’ growth and commitment to strengthening critical power resilience across the UK.
One year on, the acquisition provides an opportunity not only to reflect on Calibre’s specialist offshore Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) expertise, but also to consider how that expertise is supporting a sector in transition. Built on decades of experience in offshore oil and gas, Calibre’s work is increasingly relevant as the UK offshore energy landscape evolves towards renewable generation, including offshore wind.
Founded in 2000 by UPS specialist Jagdesh Rana, Calibre Power Electronics built its reputation in Aberdeen, at the heart of the UK’s offshore oil and gas sector. From the beginning, the business was shaped by a commitment to technical excellence, dependable service and high-calibre engineering expertise.

Calibre has become a trusted name in offshore UPS replacement, service, and maintenance, supporting critical infrastructure where reliability is essential. Its engineers have developed extensive experience with AC and DC UPS systems, including commissioning, preventive maintenance, fault resolution, and testing.
In offshore environments, technical knowledge is only one part of the requirement. Engineers must also understand the importance of safety, compliance, responsiveness and effective work in a high-risk setting. Calibre’s reputation was built on this combination of specialist UPS knowledge and offshore operational experience.
As part of the acquisition, Dale Power Solutions was pleased to retain Calibre’s Aberdeen site. This was important not only for continuity, but also because Calibre’s identity is closely connected to Scotland’s offshore energy sector.
Aberdeen has long played a central role in the UK’s offshore oil and gas industry, developing a strong supply chain, engineering culture and specialist skills base. As the offshore sector continues to evolve, those capabilities remain highly relevant. The transition towards offshore renewables does not remove the need for experienced engineers, power resilience, and dependable service.
Calibre’s family-led history remains an important part of its story, with Laura Anisha Rana succeeding her father as Managing Director in 2020 and leading the business until acquisition by Dale Power Solutions. Following the acquisition, Laura transitioned into the role of Business Development & Sales Lead for Scotland within Dale, where she has continued to play an important role in strengthening customer relationships and supporting regional growth.
Supporting a changing offshore energy sectorThe offshore sector is undergoing significant change. While oil and gas remain an important part of the UK’s energy infrastructure, offshore wind is playing an increasingly central role in the country’s long-term energy strategy.
The UK Government has set a target of at least 43GW of offshore wind by 2030, with current offshore wind capacity reported at around 16.6GW and further capacity under construction. Recent offshore wind contract awards have included major projects such as Berwick Bank in the North Sea, Dogger Bank South off the Yorkshire coast, Norfolk Vanguard off East Anglia and Awel y Môr in Wales.
This growth represents a major shift in the offshore energy landscape. However, while the energy source may be changing, the need for resilient offshore power remains critical.
Offshore wind farms depend on complex electrical systems, monitoring equipment, control infrastructure, communications and safety systems. These assets operate in challenging environments, where downtime, disruption or power instability can have significant operational consequences. UPS systems, therefore, continue to play an important role in supporting resilience, helping to protect essential systems and maintain continuity when power interruptions occur.
As the offshore energy sector continues to evolve, Calibre’s experience remains invaluable. Over more than two decades supporting offshore oil and gas operations, the company has built a strong foundation of technical knowledge, safety awareness and practical offshore capability. Today, those same strengths are increasingly relevant to the growth of offshore wind and wider renewable infrastructure, where resilient power systems remain essential to operational continuity.
One year after joining Dale Power Solutions, Calibre continues to build on its established offshore UPS legacy, supporting a changing energy landscape with the same commitment to reliability, resilience and service that has defined the business since 2000.
