Dale Power Solutions has become a leader in bringing technology and engineering together to create innovative solutions.

Marine Oil and Gas

Oil and natural gas remain the world’s leading fuels, accounting for nearly 60% of global energy consumption. The largest volumes of products of the oil and gas industry are fuel oil and gasoline (petrol), with petroleum forming the basis of a variety of chemical products, including pharmaceuticals, fertilisers, solvents and plastics. Petroleum is therefore integral to many industries and is of critical importance to many nations as the foundation of their industries. In fact, the world’s dependence on oil and gas is increasing as global economies and infrastructure continue to rely heavily on petroleum-based products. Discussions of when world oil and gas production will peak seem to be on the horizon, even amid a weakened global economy and the shrinking availability of oil. Still, as necessity continues, so too does the need for fully-operational oil rigs and gas rigs, with oil UPS power supply, gas UPS power supply, generator service and generator maintenance as top priorities. Coupled with the requirements of the marine industry – naval, commercial, leisure and offshore – such as marine UPS and marine grade UPS, there’s a lot that we can help with here at Dale Power Solutions.

Dale Power Solutions has been providing secure power solutions to the marine, oil and gas sectors for more than 40 years. We are an FPAL Verify approved supplier with dedicated project management, power management and design teams. The well-known ERSKINE industrial, offshore & marine UPS continues today as a premium product range alongside Dale custom built generator packages.

Our marine generator designs are built in accordance with all major marine classification societies including in-house witness testing and classification society certification. We have strong established relationships with the major engine suppliers and where multiple engines are technically suitable, we can opt for client preferred OEM’s for engineers, alternators, control systems and other features.

The popularity of our UP7021 Single and Three Phase Output UPS range is a testament to its power reliability, as is our range of generators. Installed and managed by an award-winning team of industry experts, they can also advise on load testing, generator maintenance, fuel management and other such power supply services. We have a full critical power service support team who are available 24/7, 365 days of the year to answer any question, and resolve any concern too. No issue is ever an issue for long with Dale Power Solutions.

The Power Supply Needs Of The Marine, Oil & Gas Industry

Offshore oil and gas production constitutes a key part of many countries’ energy infrastructure, with these operations themselves being quite energy-intensive. With onsite power requirements reaching several hundred megawatts for larger and more complex platforms, the power supply needs for the marine, oil and gas industry are truly immense.

Offshore oil and gas platforms have very high power demands, being the electric power supply is usually provided by gas turbines operating with natural gas extracted from the field. However, since fields are ageing, the amount of gas available for electric power production is declining. One common alternative is to feed those gas turbines with fuel diesel, which is an expensive solution at remote locations and has a high carbon footprint. That’s why investment in the best marine UPS solutions, gas UPS or oil UPS, along with a marine generator, gas generator or oil generator, is imperative for continued power generation and power supply.

Extreme conditions at sea require reliable power solutions. Our marine range of generators, oil generators and gas generators consistent high start and operational efficiency not only supports power supply requirements, but also reduces any risks to staff and equipment, as well as downtime and standstill costs. With low fuel consumption and preventative maintenance due to our generator remote monitoring, our marine generators, gas generators and oil generators high power-to-weight ratio and compact size is ideal for businesses looking to find alternatives to heavy structure support.

We have extensive experience in supplying the marine industry, oil industry and gas industry with UPS power supply too, taking challenges such as high levels of vibration and conformance to international maritime regulations, such as DNV, enhanced electric hazard protection and tough enclosure into account before making recommendations for your business.

Case Study

The Shell Decommissioning Project

In 2015, Shell UK Limited commenced decommissioning of the Brent Field in 2015, starting with the Brent Delta platform. Initially, the Shell team chose to use rental generators to provide essential power throughout the decommissioning phase, however this proved to be an ineffective decision. Therefore, on the second project – the decommissioning of the Brent Charlie platform – the Shell Project Team looked for an alternative reliable energy source.

Approaching Dale Power Solutions, they required a reliable supply of power for the Brent Charlie platform during the decommissioning phase of the project. What’s more, they had a tough scope to meet, and to be met in half the time it would usually take to complete. Shell’s requirements included:

  • Power/Weight Ratio: 2 MW HV power generation required.
  • Weight Limitation: Platform crane lifting limit of 12 tonnes.
  • Size Limitation: The final unit could be no bigger than 7.5m x 2.5m.
  • Noise: Generator noise had to be kept to a minimum but without the luxury of space to dampen the sound from the engine, alternator and vent fans, alternative methods had to be researched and employed.
  • Reliability of Power Supply: The remote location of the platform required a solution which would provide a wholly reliable power supply.

Our Generator Solution

We provided Shell UK Limited with two identical and customised generators manufactured to exacting marine standards. The systems were designed and built in a modular format which could be dismantled for shipping and then rebuilt on the platform. This effectively is a 2MV HV power generation unit in a 24ft container, which can be installed in a modular way using 12 tonne lifts.

We continue to support Shell with an array of power supply projects, among other reputable brands.
