Dale Power Solutions has become a leader in bringing technology and engineering together to create innovative solutions.

Reliable, Robust Stand-by Power for Police Services

Reliable and robust stand-by power is fundamental for the continuous provision of police services during a power outage. Emergency lighting, phone systems, access to data, CCTV and communications with officers and the public are all essential to continue operations, respond to emergency calls and maintain public safety.

Continuous provision of services and public safety

In the event of loss of mains power our UPS systems ensure a seamless transition from mains supply to back-up generator. An interruption to power of just milliseconds could cause problems for sensitive equipment such as IT and data centres. Having the correct UPS in place will ensure a seamless transition to the backup generator.

“We needed a quick solution. As we had worked with Dale in the past and always received excellent service they were the natural choice. The whole project was completed very quickly and the transition from our old to new UPS system went smoothly with no down time.” – Police Energy Environment Officer

The police serve to uphold the nation’s laws and maintain peace in local areas by protecting members of the public and their property, preventing crime, reducing the risk of crime and improving the quality of life for all residents. But to do this effectively requires so much more than patrolling the streets and writing up tickets. Being an effective police department or police station means always having access to the right information – whether that’s gathered through phone systems, computer systems, databases or monitoring tools. It means having efficient jail security systems in place that keep the general public safe. And most importantly, it means being available to colleagues and citizens who need your help, and being reachable through various communication channels. For all of this and more, you need reliable power supply to mitigate risks and reduce the chances of downtime.

From diesel generators and Himoinsa generators through to our UPS power supplies which include the Dale E600 and Dale E700 ranges, we can provide the police with superb power generation tools. When combined with power supply services such as generator maintenance, UPS maintenance, remote monitoring and fuel management, we have everything you need for your police operations. Installed, managed and maintained by a team of technical experts and engineers, at Dale Power Solutions, we’ll ensure that your UPS power supplies and diesel generators are always running efficiently.

With 24/7 support 365 days of the year, your police operations will run at peak power performance. The Power Needs of the Police

At Dale Power Solutions, we know that police power isn’t just about law enforcement, powers of arrest and protecting the public from criminals and unsafe behaviour. Police power is the power you have to investigate crimes, to monitor dangerous locations and to stay in touch with undercover operatives. Police power is the trust that citizens have in you to deal with cases of all magnitudes – whether it’s petty theft, burglary, abuse or hit and runs. Without sounding cliche, with that power comes great responsibility, and that responsibility includes always being connected, always being on, and always being available. Access to data. CCTV cameras and communication tools require reliable power supply, as does emergency lighting, phone systems and jail security. Without reliable power, police operations can be hindered. It’s easy to forget how much technology impacts the way in which you work, but without dependable power supply, how little you’d be able to do. That’s why uninterruptible power supplies and emergency power is a must for police stations and police departments – as well as special forces such as the transport police.

To reduce risks such as loss of communication and power failure, UPS power supply systems and backup diesel generators should form a key part of your power infrastructure. You never know when a power loss will occur, but with these power generation tools, you’ll always be prepared. And with our 24/7/365 support, you’ll never be left in the dark.

FAQs

What are then main parts of a critical power system?

Generator: Provides stand by power until the mains power can be reinstalled

UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply): Ensures a seamless transition from mains power to the standby power (generator)

Batteries: Provide the power to your UPS and Generator.

How often should I service my system?

All parts of your critical power system should be regularly maintained, serviced and thoroughly tested and depending on the criticality of the system we recommend 2 services per year as a minimum, always carried out by qualified engineer.

When we install a critical power system, we will recommend a maintenance programme specific to your particular installation. It is important to note that regular maintenance completed at the right time and equipment updates will ensure your system is working at optimal efficiency and in turn offer long term cost savings to the organisation.

More information on checks for Intermittent Use and Light Load Operation.

Why do I need Load Bank Testing?

A controlled, load bank test, checks that all aspects of the system are working correctly, including the entire electrical supply infrastructure (cabling, switchgear, generator, fuses) ensuring your system is capable of taking on a full load during a power outage. Back-up power will only work if it can support the required critical power load and therefore, we would always recommend regular load bank testing if the generator is not being used on the building load.

How often should I change my batteries?

Starter Batteries: Owing to the harsh starting conditions (high discharge for the initial start and then high charge currents from the charge alternators for a rapid recharge) and bearing in mind that they are positioned near an engine, means that starter batteries do not have the lifespan they would have if they were connected to a UPS. Battery manufacturers therefore do not provide a recommendation for changing. We can, and do advise, depending on the battery type, environment and application.

Note: A reminder to change batteries can be set in most cases to the UPS operating software.

Can you still service and repair my equipment if it’s not from Dale?

Yes, we support most OEM critical power equipment. You receive the same excellent 24/7, nationwide service for all your equipment, and one maintenance partner makes life a lot simpler.

What is the best configuration for my generators?

This depends on the load being supported and whether the unit connects across site supporting multiple loads.  For dedicated loads and locations single units are often utilised, however we would recommend for single units there is a connection for routine load bank testing and a temporary hire unit should one be required.  For centralised standby generators these are normally configured in an N+ configuration, to ensure the most critical loads can be supported in the event of servicing or failure of one of the generator units.

What’s the difference between remedial and preventative work?

Preventative scheduled maintenance is always preferable as this will pick up on any remedial work needed which can then be carried out at a suitable time. Don’t wait for an emergency to test your system is working.

How do I ensure my critical power equipment is working to optimum efficiency?

It is important to note that regular maintenance completed at the right time and equipment updates will ensure your system is working at optimal efficiency and in turn offer long term cost savings to the organisation. When we install a critical power system, we will recommend a maintenance programme specific to your particular installation.

We would recommend discharge testing every 6 months to ensure you have sufficient power when you need it.

How can I achieve any cost savings with my critical power system?

Regular, planned maintenance keeps costs and inconvenience to a minimum because work is carried out at a suitable time, rather than having to be done at short notice under emergency conditions (when the generator is actually required).  Increased reliability will mean that the set will be available when required.

Regular maintenance has other benefits:

  • Major repair bills should be avoided as potential trouble can be corrected before it has a chance to develop into major faults and therefore running costs will be reduced
  • Since the equipment will always be running under optimum conditions, operating life will be extended
  • Planned maintenance also reduces down time (minimum impact on productivity). Maintenance work can be scheduled when it will cause the least disruption to the organisation’s activities
  • Condition based monitoring of fuel, coolant and oil will keep a check on quality and is more cost effective than replacing it. Engineers should sample fuel coolant and oil yearly.
