Dale successfully completed a contract for Wood Group to supply secure power systems to the Aurora Project at the BP Sullom Voe Oil Terminal in the Shetlands.

The Sullom Voe Oil Terminal has been operating for more than 30 years and, on current forecasts, may operate for a further 20.

A review of alternatives to upgrading the existing gas plant was undertaken by the partners, culminating an upgrade resulting in the replacement of a large proportion of the gas processing plant, this development became known as Project Aurora.

Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) were required for an electrical substation and control room as part of Project Aurora where the UPS system provides a high quality source of continuous power for essential loads associated with the gas processing plant.

Dale’s Solution

The UPS equipment included Dual Redundant 20kVA ‘UP7000’ 110V AC UPS and Dual Redundant 200A ‘6CV’ 24V DC UPS backing up controls and instrumentation while an additional 10A ‘DCV’ 110V DC UPS was provided to support switchgear tripping and closing loads in the substation.
