Dale Power Solutions wins Large Employer & Apprentice of the Year at Scarborough Business Awards 2018

Dale Power Solutions had a double win at Scarborough Business Awards on Friday 30thNovember. The business was named Employer of the Year and 19-year-old electrical engineering apprentice Hannah Magowan was awarded Apprentice of the Year.

This is the fourth year (2014, 2015, 2017) that Dale Power Solutions has been named “Employer of the Year” which is awarded to the employer who does “that little bit extra” for its employees.

Mark Carter, Business Support Manager is delighted with the award. “This is the fourth time we have been awarded “Employer of the Year” and it’s as exciting and rewarding as the first time back in 2014. Our employee development programme is continually developing and evolving, and the award is recognition of this.

“We offer development routes for all employees including specific career development plans, and we also offer apprenticeships to existing employees, not just new recruits. Our business apprenticeships are now company-wide, not just engineering. They cover IT, purchasing, accounts, health and safety, quality, and warehousing. Our continued commitment and efforts have seen a large number of apprentice applications every year and 1/3 of our apprentices are female. Apprentices have injected a level of energy into the business resulting in increased productivity.”

Hannah has been with Dale since leaving school at 16. She has excelled in her apprenticeship and is fast tracking her advanced apprenticeship and beginning higher apprenticeship qualifications. To date she has gained a distinction in Unit 36 Electrical Maintenance in Buildings (Advanced Diploma) and also gained her 17thEdition Wiring Regulations Qualification.

Tim Wilkins, CEO at Dale describes Hannah. “She is a bright, hardworking member of the team.  It’s always great to see one of our apprentices fulfilling their potential and Hannah proved herself an inspiring role model for young women in engineering”.

2018 has been a winning year for both Dale and Hannah. In January, Dale was awarded the NAS Large Employer, beating Home Group and Volvo Group UK and Eire in the final and Hannah was named as one of top three advanced apprentices in the country, receiving a Highly Commended Advanced Apprentice at the NAS Awards 2018.

This was followed in April when the company received a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Promoting Opportunity. The award was given in recognition of the very successful apprenticeship programme that the company has been operating for a number of years. The programme aims to communicate the benefits of apprenticeships, promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and work within the local community to provide accessible training, career opportunities, and an alternative to further education.
