An AC UPS is a power system that provides continuous, conditioned AC secure power to a critical load. It generally consists of a rectifier (battery charger) supplied from the AC utility supply, battery and inverter to convert the rectifier /battery DC bus to an AC output voltage suitable for the critical load. In addition a static bypass facility and maintenance bypass switch will be utilised to provide capability to switch to an alternative AC bypass supply. The static bypass facility will maintain continuity of supply to the critical load if the inverter loses output or during a high level of overload provide fault clearance current.
