Bedfordshire hospital creates income stream from its generators through STOR Scheme

A hospital based in Bedfordshire was looking for new revenue streams. They had two generators with the potential to provide additional power to the national grid through the STOR (Short Term Operating Reserve) scheme organised by the National Grid.

The hospital wanted to use their generator to supply top up power to the grid when not in use at the hospital.

Dale Power’s Solution

Dale Power Solutions made the necessary modifications to the two generators to enable synchronisation with the National Grid:

• Main intake switchboard was modified to accommodate the incoming switchboard
• The synch panels in the engine room were upgraded
• New power cabling was installed to access the distribution board located 100m away
• Modifications were made to the distribution board including the synch breaker
• New inlet attenuators were added to reduce noise generator

Our Results

• STOR can be activated remotely by the aggregator when required
• An income generation stream has been developed for the hospital without the need for major capital expenditure and without compromising on the backup power available to the hospital
